Jeremy Terni Named Rookie of the Year

September 8, 2006 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
New Haven County Cutters News Release

WEST HAVEN, CT - New Haven County Cutters' third baseman Jeremy Terni was named the Can-Am League's Rookie Batter of the Year, as voted on by the eight league managers and media representatives.

Terni placed 10th in the league with a .295 batting average and finished second on the team in home runs (8), RBI (42) and slugging percentage (.456).

Terni played along aside his older brother Chas, the Cutters' shortstop, this season and made league history when the pair became the first set of brothers to homer in the same game (June 11 in Quebec).

Although not an opening day starter, Terni emerged as the everyday third baseman early in the season when an injury opened up the position.

The Uncasville, CT, native was a standout second baseman at Southern Connecticut State last season. Terni hit a team-best .402 and was named Most Valuable Player at the Northeast Regional tournament, leading Southern to its first Division II College World Series.

Terni's honor marks the second consecutive season a Cutters' player earned a Rookie of the Year award as RHP Jarrett Stawarz was named the league's top rookie pitcher last year.
