Jeremy Haynes to DL; Jose Perez returns from Orem

August 13, 2008 - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim announce today that RHP Jeremy Haynes has been placed on the disabled list with a right shoulder strain and that RHP Jose Perez has been assigned to Cedar Rapids from Orem.

Haynes made five starts for the Kernels after being assigned to Cedar Rapids on July 17, with a 2-1 record, 2.67 ERA and was part of a combined 2-0 shutout of Quad Cities on August 6.

Perez was signed by the Angels as a non-drafted free agent on January 19, 2006 and spent last season at Tempe where he posted a 1-1 record and 3.90 ERA in eight games with five starts. In 27.2 IP, he allowed 32 hits and 18 runs (12 earned) with five walks and 30 strikeouts. He pitched in one game for the Kernels and allowed six runs (five earned) on 13 hits, walked one and struck out three in a 7-2 loss to Clinton on May 26. At Orem, he had a 5-2 record and 4.17 ERA in 11 starts.

Perez will join the Kernels in Kane County and take Haynes place in the starting rotation. He will be the starter when the Kernels host Beloit on August 16 at Dale and Thomas Popcorn Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

With today's transactions, the Kernels roster is at the MWL maximum of 25 players with five players currently on the disabled list. The Kernels open a four game series at Kane County tonight with the completion of a suspended game from July 7 starting at 4 pm.
