Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release

PEORIA, IL - Edilio Colina homered in the top of the sixth inning to give the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers a 3-0 lead. Then, the Rattlers held off a late Peoria Chief lead to get a 3-2 win at O'Brien Field on Wednesday night. Juan Ramirez battled through a weather delay and 5-2/3 innings to get his fifth win of the year and help the Rattlers to their second straight victory.

The game was scoreless until the top of the third. Blake Ochoa singled to left just before lightning in the area caused a delay. Rain followed shortly and there was a 40 minute delay. When play resumed the Rattler hitters went right back to work.

Maximo Mendez and Daniel Carroll delivered back-to-back singles to load the bases. Denny Almonte appeared to have grounded into an inning-ending double play, but the grounder to second was booted and two runs scored.

Ramirez struggled at times but kept the Chiefs (25-27 second half, 56-64 overall) off the scoreboard through the first five innings. Ramirez allowed one unearned run on five hits with three walks and four strikeouts over 5-2/3 innings for the win.

Colina added an insurance run for Wisconsin (17-35, 48-70) in the top of the sixth inning when he launched his fourth home run of the season with one out.

Peoria would get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth. Brandon Guyer doubled and stole third to get into scoring position. Ramirez walked Rebel Ridling with two outs and was replaced by Natividad Dilone. Guyer would score on a passed ball, but Dilone got the final out of the sixth and retired the side in order in the seventh and eighth.

Jeff Dunbar relieved Dilone to start the bottom of the ninth. The Rattler closer got the first out and struck out Ridling. But, strike three got by Ochoa and Ridling reached to bring the tying run to the plate.

Dunbar got the second out, but with Luis Flores at the plate, pinch runner Elvis Lara took second base with out a play. Then, Flores dropped an RBI single into left. Flores moved into second base on the throw to the plate and the tying run was in scoring position.

Dunbar finished off the Chiefs by getting Josh Harrison to fly out to right.

Game three of the series is set for Thursday night. Phillippe Aumont (4-4, 2.64) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Rattlers. Peoria has Audy Santana (1-6, 3.84) as their scheduled starter. Game time is 7:00pm.
