Birmingham Barons News Release

Birmingham, AL - The Birmingham Barons reclaimed first place for the second time in three days behind a complete game effort from starter Myles Jaye in a 7-1 win over the Tennessee Smokies in front of 4,775 fans at Regions Field.

Josh Richmond put the Barons ahead 1-0 in the second inning with a solo home runagainst Smokies starter Pierce Johnson (2-2, 3.79). The home run was his eighth of the season, placing him behind only Trayce Thompson's for the team lead in long balls.

The lead grew to 3-0 in the fourth on a solo home run by Chris Curley and an RBI single by Jamie Pedroza. The homer was just Curley's second of the season and was part of a three-hit night that saw him go 3-for-4.

Ragel Ravelo extended the lead and his Southern League-best hitting streak to 24 games in the fifth with an RBI double. The streak is the 2nd-longest in Minor League Baseball this season and ranks third in Barons history. Ravelo then stole third and scored from third on a groundout by Kevan Smith extending the lead to 5-0.

The five runs were more than enough for Myles Jaye (1-7, 6.33) who picked up his first regular season win with the Barons in 15 starts dating back to the 2013 season, allowing a run on eight hits in a complete game effort. It was the first nine-inning complete game by a Barons starter since Erik Johnson on May 31, 2013 against the Smokies at Regions Field.

Jeremy Farrell capped the scoring with a two-run double in the eighth and finishedwith two hits as the Barons improved to 11-7 in the second half, a half game ahead of the Smokies in the North Division standings.

The win secured a series victory for the Barons who will look to take 4-of-5 with a win on Tuesday night. LHP Scott Snodgress (5-6, 4.05) takes the hill for the Barons in the series finale against RHP Eduardo Figueroa (0-0, 4.43). Firstpitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM CDT.
