Pensacola Blue Wahoos News Release
PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Pensacola Blue Wahoos have activated veteran infielder Ray Chang from the disabled list. Chang had been on the disabled list since the All-Star break. In a corresponding move, first baseman Marquez Smith will return to High-A Bakersfield.
Chang had played in 31 games this season for the Wahoos before heading to the disabled list. He hit .259 with six doubles and 11 RBI over the first half of the season. Chang was having his best month of the season when he went to the disabled list; over 10 games in June, Chang hit .440 with 6 RBI.
Smith heads back to High-A Bakersfield where he played in 68 games for the Blaze and hit .298 with 15 HR and 67 RBI over the first half of the season. Smith had five hits over 14 games with the Wahoos.
Other moves made by the organization on Monday include Bryson Smith getting activated from the disabled list and transferred to Bakersfield and Michael Lorenzen being placed on the temporary inactive list. Smith played in 13 games with the Blue Wahoos this season and hit .273 before getting sidelined to have surgery to remove bone chips in his leg. He missed the end of the 2013 season after breaking his leg leaping into the wall. The injury required surgery which took the offseason to recover from.
Tim Adleman started in place of Lorenzen in yesterday's game in Mobile. Lorenzen isn't expected to miss another start.
