Reading Fightin Phils News Release

Rock Cats RHP Brett Jacobson pitched the game of his life - unfortunately for the R-Phils, it happened on Friday night in Baseballtown.

Jacobson (3-0, 1.92) tossed a complete-game, three-hit shutout, Nathan Hanson had two hits and two RBIs, and the R-Phils dropped the opening game of their three-game series to New Britain by a score of 6-0 on Friday evening at FirstEnergy Stadium in front of 9,451 fans.

A native of Phoenix, AZ, Jacobson, 24, walked one and fanned a season-high eight batters on the evening en-route to his third win of the season. The 6'6" righty tossed 95 pitches and was very effective against the R-Phils to lead New Britain in the opener.

Last season, Reading went 9-2 against the Rock Cats, but on Friday, their offense stumbled. Reading just couldn't get anything done against Jacobson, who mowed down Reading hitters inning after inning. Freddy Galvis, Michael Spidale, and Steve Susdorf had the only hits on the evening for Reading.

Philadelphia Phillies catcher Brian Schneider was in the lineup for Reading, as he began his rehab from a strained left hamstring. Schneider, 34, hit second in the order and started behind the plate. The Northampton High School product caught six innings and went 0-2 at the plate. He will be back in the lineup for the R-Phils on Saturday.

Reading starter J.C. Ramirez (5-6, 4.31) allowed four runs (three earned) over six innings of work. The Nicaraguan native has now dropped his last three starts and has allowed 15 earned runs over his last 10.2 innings pitched.

Joe Savery, who was promoted from Clearwater (A+) on Thursday, made his 2011 Baseballtown debut and went 0-3 on the evening. Savery, a product of Rice University, was an Eastern League All-Star for the R-Phils in 2009 as a pitcher. He was the designated hitter for the R-Phils.

With the win, New Britain (35-30) moved ahead of the R-Phils in the standings. The Rock Cats stopped a two-game losing streak with the victory.

The two clubs will meet again on Saturday and taking the mound for Reading will be RHP Tyler Cloyd (0-0, 2.45 ERA). Cloyd and the R-Phils will face New Britain starter RHP Deinys Suarez (0-1, 3.27 ERA). Coverage begins at 6:05 p.m. on ESPN Radio 1240 AM WIOV and readingphillies.com. Steve Degler returns to the broadcast booth and will have the call for all of the action. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.
