Three Homeruns Can't Provide Win As B-Mets Roll
June 17, 2011 - Eastern League (EL1)
Trenton Thunder News Release
(Binghamton, NY) - The Trenton Thunder (39-28) knocked three homeruns but fell to the Binghamton Mets (22-43) 10-4 Friday night in front of 5,072 at NYSEG Stadium in Binghamton, New York. Thunder starter Manny Banuelos was unable to make it out of the fourth inning, allowing five runs to receive his first loss since August 23, 2010 in his Double A debut.
After the lefty Banuelos was chased from the game in the top of the fourth inning when he gave up five runs and the B-Mets took a 5-0 lead, the Thunder answered right back with three runs in the top of the fifth. Jose Gil smacked a one-out, solo homerun to left field to get his team on the NYSEG Stadium scoreboard. After a Corban Joseph walk, Jason Place belted a two-run homerun over the left field wall to make it a two-run game.
After Trenton's three-run fifth, Binghamton scored five unanswered runs off of Thunder relievers Naoya Okamoto and Fernando Hernandez to take complete command of the game. Bradley Suttle hit a long, solo homerun to right-centerfield in the top of the ninth. However, it did not cut into the Binghamton advantage enough, and the B-Mets rolled to a 10-4 victory.
The Thunder have now lost three straight games for the first time since late April and will need a win Saturday night to stay alive in the three-game series.
Looking to snap their three-game slide, the Thunder are back in action Saturday night from NYSEG Stadium in Binghamton with game two of a three-game set at 7:05 PM. Trenton will send LHP Kei Igawa (2-2, 3.83) to the mound, while Binghamton will counter with RHP Jeurys Familia (0-2, 3.40). Tune-in to the game on 91.3 WTSR-FM and on trentonthunder.com. The SBLI Pre-Game Show with Hank Fuerst begins at 6:50 PM.
