Jacksonville Falls in Finale with Durham

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Despite taking an early lead, the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp fell to the Durham Bulls 6-2 Sunday afternoon at 121 financial Ballpark.

Jacksonville (38-34) drew first blood in the bottom of the first. Joey Wendle (1) launched a solo homerun, his first with the Jumbo Shrimp, to give them a 1-0 lead.

After falling behind in the bottom of the first, the Durham Bulls (39-33) retaliated in the top of the second, sending 10 batters to the plate. Jim Haley led off with a walk and two batters later, David Rodriguez walked to put runners on first and second. Grant Witherspoon singled, loading the bases and Tristan Gray followed with a single, scoring Haley from third to tie the game at one. Cal Stevenson smacked the third consecutive single, scoring Rodriguez and Witherspoon to give Durham a 3-1 lead. Miles Mastrobuoni reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Gray to score to give the Bulls a 4-1 advantage. With runners at the corners, Xavier Edwards singled and Ryan Boldt tallied another base hit, scoring Mastrobuoni from second to push the lead to 5-1.

The Jumbo Shrimp got a run back in the bottom of the second. JJ Bleday led off with a single and advanced to second on a groundball from Ryan Lavarnway. Bleday advanced to third on a wild pitch by Luis Patiño (W, 1-0) and then scored on the second wild pitch of the inning, cutting the deficit to 5-2.

The Bulls tallied the final run of the game in the top of the seventh. Gray (15) led off the top of the seventh with a solo home run, giving Durham a 6-2 lead.
