Charlotte Knights News Release
(WORCESTER, MA) -- The Charlotte Knights scored first, but fell just short on Sunday to the Worcester Red Sox by a score of 3-2 in the finale of the six-game series from Polar Park in Worcester, MA.
Charlotte right fielder Logan Glass, who connected on a three-run home run in Saturday night's game, doubled home Charlotte's first run of the game on Sunday in the top of the fifth inning. Glass, who was promoted to Charlotte from Single-A Kannapolis on Thursday, went 1-for-3 with the RBI double on Sunday.
The Knights added another run in the top of the fifth inning to take a 2-0 lead over the WooSox. Center fielder Mark Payton hit a sacrifice-fly RBI to bring home Laz Rivera for the second and final run of the day for the Knights.
Charlotte RHP Davis Martin made his first start since being optioned back to the team from the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday. Martin struck-out nine batters over four shutout innings and left with a 2-0 lead.
LHP Anderson Severino (0-3, 13.09) came on to pitch the fifth inning for the Knights and allowed Worcester to score three runs in the inning. Severino, who was saddled with the loss, allowed an RBI double to Pedro Castellanos and a two-run single to Grant Williams. That was all the WooSox needed to win for the fifth and final time in the series.
Chicago White Sox outfielder Eloy Jiménez continued his major league rehab assignment on Sunday with the Knights and went 0-for-4 at the plate. He recorded five hits over five rehab games in the series against the WooSox.
In the end, the Knights dropped five of six games to the WooSox in the series. Sunday's game lasted two hours and nine minutes.
The Knights will now have an off day on Monday before opening a six-game home series against the Durham Bulls (Triple-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays) from Truist Field in Uptown Charlotte. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad and long-time Knights broadcaster Mike Pacheco will have the call for all of the action on 730 The Game ESPN Charlotte and www.CharlotteKnights.com. First pitch on Tuesday is set for 11:05 a.m. from the home of the Knights.
