Louisville Bats News Release

LOUISVILLE, KY- Alejo Lopez, Taylor Motter, and Stuart Fairchild hit back-to-back-to-back homeruns for the first time since 2002 to lead the Louisville Bats (27-44) to a 10-5 win over the Iowa Cubs (33-38) on Sunday afternoon at Louisville Slugger Field.

Alejo Lopez hit Louisville's first grand slam of the season and was immediately followed by home runs from Taylor Motter and Stuart Fairchild as the Bats hit back-to-back-to-back home runs for the first time since Brandon Larson, Donny Leon, and Ben Broussard accomplished the feat on May 13, 2002 in a 13-7 win over Syracuse.

Louisville set the offensive tone early when Jose Barrero sent his sixth home run of the season sailing into the seats in left field in the bottom of the first inning.

The Bats added two more runs in the second, led by an RBI-double from Bryrd Tenerowicz to give Louisville an early 3-0 lead.

Iowa made their push in the fourth when a sacrifice fly and three consecutive RBI-singles from Dixon Machado, Jackson Frazier, and Darius Hill pushed the I-Cubs out in front, 4-3.

Iowa tacked on one more run in the top of the sixth, but the 5-3 lead would not last long as Louisville hit their series of homers in the bottom half of the inning, scoring seven runs in total to put Louisville back on top by a score of 10-5.

The Louisville bullpen proved to be lights out yet again as Matt Pidich, Eddy Demurias, Kyle Dowdy, and Kyle Zimmer combined for 5.1 innings of work, allowing a lone unearned run and surrendering just three hits to close out the contest.

Louisville will head to Toledo for a six game series with the Mud Hens, Triple-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, and game one is scheduled for Tuesday, June 28, with first pitch slated for 7:05 p.m. Southpaw Justin Nicolino (1-2, 9.82) will get the start for the Bats as Toledo's starter has yet to be announced.
