Elmira Jackals News Release
The Elmira Jackals (25-23-6-1) won all three games at First Arena this past weekend under new coach Robbie Nichols, beating Wheeling on Friday, 3-1, Reading on Saturday, 5-4, and Trenton on Sunday, 4-3. Elmira hosts Wheeling on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. before meeting the Greenville Road Warriors in South Carolina on Saturday and Sunday.
Elmira trailed 1-0 in all three games on the weekend. The Jackals battled back from an early one-goal deficit against Wheeling with a goal in each period. Josh Brittain's goal with under a minute to go in the second period proved to be his first career game-winning tally and Marco Cousineau stopped 23 of 24 shots for his 14th win of the year.
On Saturday, 4,231 fans - the second-largest crowd in club history - saw Elmira stage a dramatic come-from-behind victory to defeat the league-leading Reading Royals. The Jackals trailed by two goals under a minute into the third period before Justin Donati scored twice moments later to tie the game. Yannick Tifu's first game winner of the season with 1:54 left in the third period completed the comeback for the Jackals.
Elmira secured the weekend sweep on Sunday, scoring three power-play goals in the second period and getting another game-winning goal from Tifu in the third period of their victory against the Devils.
The Jackals enter the week tied for seventh in the Eastern Conference standings at 57 points with Gwinnett and Cincinnati. The Gladiators are in South Carolina tonight to take on the Stingrays.
Elmira has won four-consecutive home games for the first time since it won four home games in a row from Jan. 8 - 30 last season.
