Salmon Kings' Couture Joins Whale

Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, announced today that forward Derek Couture has been loaned to the Connecticut Whale of the American Hockey League (AHL).

The Calgary, AB native has dressed in 25 games in Victoria this season, netting 19 points (8g-11a) to go along with 76 minutes in penalties.

Couture, 26, previously played for the Connecticut franchise, then known as the Hartford Wolf Pack, during last year's 2009-10 campaign. In 67 appearances with Hartford he scored 11 goals and assisted on nine others for 20 points, while serving 104 penalty minutes.

The veteran forward has appeared in 273 career AHL games between Hartford, the Binghamton Senators and Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights. In his AHL career he has tallied 71 points (33g-38a) and 418 minutes in penalties.

The 6-1, 205 lb Couture has spread 114 points (46-68a) and 634 penalty minutes across 328 games during his six-year professional career.

The Salmon Kings welcome the Bakersfield Condors to the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre for a three game series this week beginning tomorrow.
