
Jackals Strike Early, Often in Win Against Nahua

Little Falls, NJ - The New Jersey Jackals jumped on Nashua Pride starter Jason Paul early, posting six runs in the bottom of the first inning en route to a 10-4 win on Wednesday afternoon at Yogi Berra Stadium.
In the first inning, the first six New Jersey batters each recorded hits against Paul (3-3), who took the loss after allowing seven earned runs on eleven hits in 3 1/3 innings. Jackals 2B Marcus Sanders led off with a single and was doubled home by SS Bryant Nelson to make it 1-0. Nelson was, in turn, doubled home by 1B Juan Tejeda before an RBI single off the bat of LF Luke Allen made it 3-0. After two singles loaded the bases, an RBI fielder's choice by 3B David Urias extended the Jackals lead to 4-0. An RBI single by CF Zack Smithlin and a run-scoring ground out by Sanders capped the first inning.
For the Jackals, starter Jorge Acosta left the game in the top of the second inning due to an undisclosed injury. Reliever Ryan Pacyna (2-1) entered and threw 3 2/3 innings to earn the victory after allowing three runs on three hits with thee walks and a strikeout. Trailing 6-0 in the top of the second inning, the Pride got on the board with an RBI double by SS Sandy Almonte to cut the deficit to 6-1. However, the Jackals countered in the bottom of the fourth with two more runs to extend their lead to 8-1. In the Jackals fourth, Allen laced his eighth home run of the season onto the hill in right field leading off the inning, which was followed by an RBI single by C Craig Maddox.
Nashua plated two runs in the top of the fifth and one in the seventh to make it an 8-4 game , but the Jackals rebounded once again in the bottom of the seventh with two more scores on a Nelson homer and an Allen RBI base knock to cap the scoring at 10-4. The Jackals and Pride conclude their four-game series on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. when New Jersey left-hander Isaac Pavlik (6-4, 3.93 ERA) takes the hill against Nashua righty Hideki Nagasaka (6-4, 5.25 ERA).
