
Jackals Topple Pride; 10-4

(Little Falls, N.J., August 6, 2008) The New Jersey Jackals exploded for six run on seven hits in the first inning and never looked back, defeating the Nashua Pride, 10-4, at Yogi Berra Stadium on Wednesday.
The Jackals were led at the plate by left fielder Luke Allen who finished the game 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI while shortstop Bryant Nelson went 2-for-2 with a double, home run, and two RBI. First baseman Juan Tejeda notched a pair of doubles and finished the day 2-for-5 with a RBI while teammates Marcus Sanders, David Urias, Craig Maddox, and Zach Smithlin each also tallied RBI for New Jersey.
Jackals' starter Jorge Acosta (1-2) did not factor in a decision and was forced to leave the game after just one scoreless inning due to an undisclosed injury. Reliever Ryan Pacyna (2-1) was the first man out of the bullpen and earned the win going three and two-thirds innings, giving up three runs, on three hits, three walks and one strike out.
Pride starting pitcher Jason Paul (3-3) suffered the loss lasting just three and one-thirds innings, giving up eight runs, on eleven hits, five walks and two strike outs. Reliever Brett Palanski pitched two and two-thirds innings of scoreless work and struck out three while Chris Torres gave up a pair of runs in two innings.
Nashua shortstop Sandy Almonte led the Pride offense going 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI. Third baseman Argenis Tavarez also drove in a pair and finished the day 2-for-4, while left fielder Jerod Edmondson went 2-for-4 with three runs scored.
The Pride and Jackals will conclude their series on Thursday night, at 7:05pm, when Nashua sends Hideki Nagasaka (6-4) to the mound. New Jersey will give left hander Isaac Pavlik (6-4) the starting nod.
