Elmira Jackals News Release
Toledo, Ohio - The Elmira Jackals garnered their fourth-straight road victory to start the 2010-2011 campaign early Wednesday in 'School Celebration Day' at the Huntington Center, defeating the Toledo Walleye, 4-1. The win was the 300th for Jackals head coach Malcolm Cameron in the ECHL as Elmira improved to 5-1-2-0 on the season.
After an Andy Bohmbach goal at 14:35 put Toledo up 1-0, Andrew Sweetland connected from the left circle at 17:05 to tie the game 1-1. R.J. Anderson fed the puck ahead to Oren Eizenman, who gave it to Sweetland in the offensive end to create the opportunity.
John Mitchell's first professional goal at 7:42 of the second period proved to be the game winner. Michael Dubuc's pass from behind the net started the chance, with Dubuc finding Mitchell in the left circle, and the rookie forward one-timed the puck past Walleye goaltender Scott Campbell to make it 2-1. Justin Donati had an assist on the play as well, putting him into a tie with Gwinnett's Derek Nesbitt at 14 points for the ECHL lead.
Tim Spencer's shot from the left side of the offensive zone at 16:04 of the second created a tie up in front of the net. Brennan Turner eventually pushed the puck over the goal line for his first tally of the season, increasing the lead to 3-1.
Dubuc's wrist shot from the left point flew through a screen and past the glove of Campbell at 13:36 of the third, capping a four-goal Jackals rally and bringing the score to 4-1.
In goal, Shane Connelly earned his second win in as many starts, making a Jackals season-high 37 saves as Elmira held an opponent to under two goals for the first time this season. Campbell stopped 22 of 26 shots in the loss for the Walleye.
The Jackals stopped each of their opponent's power play opportunities for the second-straight game, going five for five as Toledo's power play dropped to 2.9% on the season.
Elmira's road record of 4-0 is tops in the ECHL.
The Jackals are at home against the Reading Royals on Friday and Saturday at First Arena at 7:35 p.m.
