Alex Petizian Called up by Portland

Alaska Aces goaltender Alex Petizian has been activated off of the injured reserve list, and called up by the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League, Aces Head Coach Brent Thompson announced on Wednesday morning. Petizian spent training camp in Portland earlier this season. The Pirates, who are the affiliate of the NHL's Buffalo Sabers, are in Charlotte on Wednesday and return home on Friday to host Adirondack. The Aces will continue their five-game road trip on Wednesday at Bakersfield at 6:00pm AKST. All games can be heard on the radio home of Aces hockey, NewsTalk 750AM KFQD. Petizian, 23, is in his rookie season, and has yet to make his Aces debut. The 5'10", 175 lbs. netminder spent the majority of training camp with the Pirates, and joined the Aces late in the pre-season. He began the season on the opening night active roster, but was placed on the IR a week into the season. Petizian went 45-29-10 in four years at St. Lawrence University. He has played in one American Hockey League game, stopping 26 of 30 shots in his professional debut for the Rochester Americans on April 10 in a 5-2 loss to Syracuse. He finished with the third-best GAA in St. Lawrence history (2.18) and the sixth-best save percentage (.927). In additional Aces news, defenseman Steve Ward who was called up by the Peoria Rivermen on Friday night, has been re-assigned to the Aces, and is eligible for Friday's game in Bakersfield.
