Elmira Jackals News Release
Duluth, Ga. - The Elmira Jackals dropped their second-straight decision to the Gwinnett Gladiators on Saturday night at The Arena at Gwinnett Center, falling 4-1. With the victory, Gwinnett jumped past Elmira into first place in the Eastern Conference for the first time since Dec. 31.
Pat Galivan kicked off the scoring for the Gladiators, tipping a Nikita Kashirsky shot from the left-wing boards into the net at 8:13 of the first, putting Gwinnett in front 1-0.
Moments later, Paul Flache fired a puck from the blue line past the stick side of Elmira netminder Timo Pielmeier, as the Gladiators extended their lead to 2-0 at 9:25.
Josh Brittain followed up a blocked shot on Elmira's first power play by backhanding a puck in from the slot, bringing Elmira to within a goal at 11:17 of the opening frame, 2-1.
The Gladiators countered on their opening power play early in the second period, when Tyler Murovich shot a puck in from the right circle at 42 seconds, opening Gwinnett's lead to 3-1.
Justin Milo rolled a puck into an empty net with Pielmeier pulled late in the third period, closing the scoring out at 18:56 and giving Gwinnett the 4-1 win.
Pielmeier fell to 9-7-1-0 with 27 saves. Gwinnett goaltender Jeff Jakaitis improved to 16-6-1-1, stopping 16 shots.
