Alaska Aces News Release
The Alaska Aces had their franchise-record, 12-game road point streak snapped in a 6-3 loss to the Stockton Thunder at Stockton Arena on Friday night. The Aces fell to 31-7-5, on the season, and 7-3-5 on the road. The Aces continue the road trip with two more games this weekend in Stockton. They return to the Sullivan Arena on February 17. The Thunder came out an inspired team in the first period and controlled the pace of play. Stockton scored two goals 12 seconds apart to take a 2-0 lead. The first goal came 6:00 into the period on a power play when Colton Hayes struck on a wrist shot from the high slot for his first pro goal. On the ensuing shift, Matt Reber scored his first Thunder goal in his second game since being acquired by Utah. He poked home a rebound at 6:12 to give Stockton the two-goal lead. Stockton kept that advantage through the frame, and outshot Alaska 12-6 in the period.
The Aces had a two-man advantage for over a minute and a half early in the second period, but could not capitalize. Stockton later extended their lead on a five-on-three of their own when Kevin Baker scored on a rebound at 6:32 making it 3-0. The Aces finally broke through at 8:59 on a power play when Bryan Miller scored on a one-timer from the top of the right circle. The Aces gained some momentum following the goal, but could not strike again in the period, and Baker scored another power play goal at 15:51 to make it 4-1 Stockton after two periods. The Aces outshot the Thunder 12-9 in the period.
The Aces came out in the third and tried to get back into the game. Zach Harrison scored at 1:02 to make it 4-2 Stockton. However, Max Campbell's goal at 7:42 got the Thunder back up by three. Miller scored his second of the night on a power play at 13:38, but that's as close as Alaska would get. Matt Foy capped the Stockton win with an empty net goal at 18:31.
Adam Courchaine (14-3-3) suffered the loss, making 28 saves on 33 shots, while Alex Stalock (3-0-0) earned the win, stopping 24 of 27 shots against. The Aces power play went 2-5, while the Thunder went 3-6. Alaska outshot Stockton 25-23 in the game.
The Aces continue the road trip with two more games this weekend in Stockton. They return to the Sullivan Arena on February 17. For more information, please call the Aces at 907.258.ACES or visit them online at www.facebook.com/alaskaaceshockey.
