Isotopes Throttle 51s 11-3 in Game One of Doubleheader

NEED TO KNOW: The Albuquerque Isotopes (41-48) throttled the Las Vegas 51s (51-38) 11-3 Saturday afternoon in game one of a split doubleheader at Isotopes Park. Game two is set for a 7:05 p.m. first pitch with post-game fireworks presented by Cricket Wireless to follow, weather permitting.

CRITICAL MOMENT: It took only one pitch for the Isotopes to grab the lead Saturday afternoon asTrayvon Robinson smacked a leadoff homer over the right field wall. After awalk to Mike Baxter, Jamie Romak would smash the first of his two home runs on the afternoon to give Albuquerque a 3-0 lead. Two more runs would score in the first, and the Topes never looked back, posting another five-spot in the third inning.

SLUGGIN' ROMAK: Third baseman Jamie Romak turned in a 2-for-4 afternoon with two home runs and five RBI. In seven games since rejoining the Isotopes from the Los Angeles Dodgers on June 29, Romak is batting .379 (11-for-29) with five runs scored, two doubles, two home runs, 12 RBI and a walk.

STEALTHY SMITH: Isotopes starter Steve Smith turned in the best outing of his Triple-A career, tossing six innings of four-hit, two run ball. Smith also did not walk a batter againstthree strikeouts. He carried a no hitter into the fifth inning but surrendered a one-out single. The 4.1 innings of hitless ball matched the longest an Albuquerque starter has held a no-hit bid this season. Smith was making hisfirst start since June 6 and only his fifth start of the season.

T-ROB LIKE T-BALL: Trayvon Robinson wasted no time giving the Isotopes a lead Saturday afternoon. On the first pitch of the bottom of the first inning, Robinson launched his sixth home run of the season and second in as many days over the right field fence. It was the first leadoff homer by a Tope since Tony Abreu homered to leadoff a game on August 11, 2009, against Tacoma. Robinson finished the game 2-for-4with a homer, a double, two runs scored and an RBI.

THE SATURDAY SPLIT: The second game of Saturday's doubleheader is slated for 7:05 p.m. start. Right-hander Zach Lee (6-8 5.07 ERA) will take the hill for Albuquerque, while Las Vegas has yet to announce itsstarter.

ON DECK: The Isotopes and 51s will play the finale of their four-game series Sunday at 6:05 p.m. The Isotopes are scheduled to send right-hander Red Patterson (3-6, 4.69 ERA) to the hill, and the 51s will send righty Noah Syndergaard (6-4, 5.70 ERA).
