Chicago Cubs Recall Chris Rusin

Oklahoma City, OK - The Chicago Cubs have recalled Iowa LHP Chris Rusin today. Rusin joined the Cubs in time to be available for today's game against the Washington Nationals at Nationals Park.

Rusin is 6-10 with a 3.96 ERA (44ER/100.0IP) in 16 starts with Iowa this season. He has allowed 108 hits and 26 walks while striking out 71. He leads the Pacific Coast League in losses and is tied for seventh in innings pitched. Rusin pitched a nine-inning no-hitter on May 11 at New Orleans. It was Iowa's first no-hitter in nearly 30 years. Reggie Patterson was the last to accomplish the feat on August 21, 1984 against Omaha. It was the first PCL no-hitter since 2009. Rusin made his triple-A debut with Iowa is 2011. He is 27-28 with a 4.01 ERA (189ER/424.0IP) in 71 games (68 starts) in his I-Cubs career.

This will be Rusin's second stint with Chicago this season. He was called up on April 12 and pitched five innings in relief in the Cubs' game at St. Louis that day. He allowed one run on three hits, walked one, and struck out one. Rusin has logged big league time with the Cubs each of the last three seasons and is 4-9 with a 4.54 ERA (51ER/101.0IP) in 21 career major league games, including 20 starts.

The Iowa Cubs play game two of a three-game series tonight at 7:05 in Oklahoma City. The Cubs will have RH Carlos Pimentel (1-4, 4.79) on the mound against RH Paul Clemens (3-0, 1.38) for the RedHawks. The game will be broadcast live on AM 940 and streamed live at iowacubs.com with the On-Deck Circle Pre-Game Show starting at 6:45.
