
Zephyrs Fall to Memphis 6-3

Memphis, Tennessee - The Memphis Redbirds offense scored pair of runs in the first three innings and defeated the New Orleans Zephyrs 6-3 in front of a crowd 8,510.
Randal Grichuk drilled a first inning two run home run to start the scoring. The Birds loaded the bases in the second and scored two more on hits from Ed Easley and Stephen Piscotty. Memphis added two additional runs in the third to push their lead to 6-0.
Boone Whiting (1-6) had not won a game this season was making his 12th start of the season pitched six innings allowing one run on five hits.
Z's starter Elih Villanueva (8-6) was chased early for his second consecutive start, he allowed six runs in 2.1 innings. He has dropped four of his last five starts.
The Z's bullpen stepped up and did not allow a run pitching the final six and two thirds innings.
The Redbirds had been struggling and had dropped seven of their last eight games before defeating the Zephyrs the past two nights. The Z's have dropped ten of their last 13 games.
