Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
NEED TO KNOW: After falling behind 5-3 in the sixth inning, the Albuquerque Isotopes (38-46) rallied for a combined five runs in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings to beat the El Paso Chihuahuas (40-45) 8-6 Monday night at Southwest University Park in El Paso, TX.
CRITICAL MOMENT: After Erisbel Arruebarrena singled home Jeremy Hazelbaker with two outs in the eighth inning to tie the game at five, the Isotopes carried that two-out magic into the ninth inning. Still tied at five, Tim Federowicz drew a two-out walk in the top of the ninth. He advanced to second on a wild pitch and scurried home on a broken-bat single to right field by Jamie Romak on a 3-2 pitch. Alex Liddi would immediately follow with a two-run home run to expand the Isotopes lead to 8-5.
ROMAK DOING HIS THING: Infielder/outfielder Jamie Romak just rejoined Albuquerque prior to Sunday's game after making his Major League debut on May 28. His broken-bat RBI single in the ninth inning broke a five-all tie and sent the Isotopes on their way to a series-opening win. Romak now has a hit in nine of his last 11 Triple-A games and is batting .341 (14-for-41) with three doubles, one triple, three homers, seven RBI and four walks.
FEDEX BEST ON THE ROAD: Catcher Tim Federowicz turned in a 3-for-4 night with a double, two RBI, one run scored and a walk. In 18 road games this season with Albuquerque, Federowicz is hitting .382 (26-for-68) with five doubles, fourhome runs, 13 RBI, 12 runs scored and three walks.
ARRUEBARRENA - IT WAS UGLY BUT TIMELY: Erisbel Arruebarrena struck out in his first three at-bats Monday night and made an error in the sixth inning that led to a pair of El Paso runs, but in the eighth inning, it was his clutch two-out singlethat scored Jeremy Hazelbaker to tie the game. Arruebarrena has a hit in 16 of his last 17 games and is now hitting .407 (24-for-59) during that stretch with three doubles, two triples, seven walks, six runs scored and seven RBI.
ONCE A TOPE, ALWAYS A TOPE: While Albuquerque was busy rallying in El Paso, former Isotopes first baseman Clint Robinson, who was called up to Los Angeles on June 25, recorded his first Major League hit, a single up the middle to give the Dodgers a 1-0 lead in the seventh inning over the Cleveland Indians. His single would prove to be the difference as the Dodgers would go on to win 1-0 and take a half-game lead in the National League West, their first lead in the division since April 25.
ON DECK: The Isotopes and Chihuahuas will play game two of their four-game series Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. MT. Right-hander Drew Carpenter (0-0, 0.00 ERA) is expected to start for Albuquerque, while El Paso will go with righty Donn Roach (1-1, 3.42 ERA).
IN THE HOLE: After the four-game road trip, the Isotopes will return home to face the division-leading Las Vegas 51s and Chihuahuas in an eight-game homestand onJuly 4-10.
