Salt Lake Bees News Release
Fresno rallied to score two runs in the eighth inning, as the Grizzlies edged the Salt Lake Bees 3-2 on Saturday night. The Bees held a 2-1 lead when Guillermo Quiroz led off the bottom of the eighth with a double off of Salt Lake reliever Fernando Nieve (2-2). Quiroz moved to third on a sacrifice and scored the tying run on a bloop single to left by Tony Abreu. Brandon Belt, who is on a Major League injury rehab assignment, followed with a double to right center that brought home Abreu with the eventual winning run.
The late rally by Fresno spoiled a solid outing by Salt Lake starter Justin Thomas, who went seven innings and allowed just one run on five hits with a season high equaling eight strikeouts. Trailing 1-0, the Bees tied the game in the third inning when Taylor Lindsey led off with a double and later scored on an error. Salt Lake took the lead in the fifth when Ian Stewart walked, moved to second on an error, advanced to third on a sacrifice by Luis Martinez and scored on a sacrifice fly by Vance Albitz. Matt Long led the Bees with a pair of singles, as Salt Lake managed only six hits.
