Tacoma Rainiers News Release
TACOMA, Wash. -- Chris Taylor and Corey Hart each homered as the Tacoma Rainiers rolled to 6-2 series-opening win over the Reno Aces at Cheney Stadium on Monday night.
Taylor provided the Rainiers an early 1-0 edge after belting a first-inning leadoff home run - the infielder's fifth this season. Hart recorded the first home run of his Major League rehab assignment with Tacoma in the fifth inning when he delivered a two-run shot to left field that stretched the lead to 6-0.
Earlier in the fifth, outfielder Abraham Almonte drove in a pair of runs with his third triple in his last two games. The shortstop Taylor collected his second RBI of the night after hitting a run-scoring single that plated Almonte.
The Rainiers lineup combined to collect a total of eight hits against the Aces. Taylor, Hart and second baseman Nick Franklin combined to account for three-fourths of that haul after turning in two hits each. Franklin's two singles extended his season-high hitting streak to nine games.
Reliever Stephen Kohlscheen (1-0) collected the win after after striking out one in a scoreless inning of work in the fifth. Right-hander Forrest Snow limited the Aces to two hits, struck out five and walked one over through 4.0 shutout frames in his second start and third appearance with the Rainiers this season.
The Rainiers (39-44) host the second game of a four-game series with Reno (46-39) at 7:05 p.m. tomorrow, July 1. Right-hander Chance Ruffin (3-3, 5.53) is expected to start for Tacoma in the contest against Aces right-hander Lucas Harrell (3-1, 4.64).
