Isotopes Fall 3-2 on Memorial Day
May 31, 2021 - Pacific Coast League (PCL)
Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
Skeeters 3 (16-6), Isotopes 2 (7-16) - Constellation Field | Sugar Land, Tex.
AT THE DISH: Albuquerque broke a 21-inning scoreless streak by pushing across a run in the first inning Monday as Wynton Bernard led off with a base hit and scored on an error ... designated hitter Danny Edgeworth provided the other tally for the Isotopes with his second home run at Triple-A, the first that went over the fence ... Ryan Vilade was the lone Tope to pick up a multi-hit afternoon by going 2-for-4 ... the Isotopes were limited to six hits.
TOEING THE RUBBER: Starting pitcher Brandon Gold threw 79 pitches in four innings but limited Sugar Land to four hits and one run ... Antonio Santos took the loss after giving up the go-ahead two-run double to Jose Siri in the fifth inning ... Ben Bowden, Lucas Gilbreath and Chad Smith each worked a perfect inning of relief as the Isotopes retired the final 10 Skeeters batters of the day.
TOPES TIDBITS: The Isotopes set a pair of unpleasant franchise records in May ... Lowest team batting average in a month (.214) and fewest runs scored in one month (85) ... This is not including September records as Albuquerque has historically only played a handful of games in that month ... The previous worst marks were a .236 average in May 2016 and 91 runs scored in June 2016 ... Bernard and Alan Trejo each bounced into a double play in the late innings with the tying and go-ahead runs on base ... Trejo's came with the bases loaded and ended the top of the eighth ... Albuquerque is now 31-72 against the Houston Astros Triple-A affiliate (Oklahoma City, Fresno, Round Rock, Sugar Land) since August 27, 2012.
ON DECK: Albuquerque will wrap up their six-game road trip with a 6:05 PM Mountain Time first pitch from Constellation Field on Tuesday night. Ryan Castellani (1-2, 7.62) is scheduled to start for the Isotopes while the Skeeters are undecided.
