IronPigs Edge Chiefs on Sunday Afternoon

The Syracuse Chiefs dropped the second game of the series against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, 3-1, on Sunday afternoon at NBT Bank Stadium. Lehigh Valley held the Syracuse offense to just two hits on the afternoon. Darin Mastroianni scored the only run for the Chiefs after he stole two bases and took home on a wild pitch.

Lehigh Valley (61-75) wasted no time and scored first in the top of the first inning against Syracuse starter A.J. Cole. Chase d'Arnaud led off the inning with a double to left-center field. With one out and d'Arnaud on third, Tyler Henson drove in the runner from third with a sacrifice fly to left field to give the IronPigs an early 1-0 lead.

The IronPigs tallied another in the top of the fourth inning. Brian Bogusevic drew a walk to start the frame. Then, Henson doubled to right-center field to put two runners in scoring position with no outs for Lehigh Valley. Two batters later, Tommy Joseph blooped a soft single to center to score Bogusevic for the second run for the Pigs.

Syracuse (61-75) cut the lead in half in the bottom of the sixth inning against Lehigh Valley starter Sean O'Sullivan. Mastroianni drew a leadoff walk against the right-hander to start the inning. With Jason Martinson at the plate, Mastroianni stole second base and third base.Two batters later, O'Sullivan threw a wild pitch with Matt Skole batting that allowed Mastroianni to swipe home and cut the deficit to one.

Russ Canzler added one more IronPigs run with one swing of the bat in the top of the ninth inning against Scott McGregor. The pinch-hitter blasted a solo shot over the right-center field wall. Canzler's eighth home run put the Pigs up 3-1.

The Chiefs and IronPigs finish this three-game set on Monday night at NBT Bank Stadium. Syracuse sends right-hander Taylor Hill to the mound against left-hander Anthony Vasquez. The game is set to start at 7:05 p.m.
