Long Island Ducks News Release
(Lancaster, Pa.) - The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Lebanon Ironmasters (a.k.a. Lancaster Barnstormers) 5-4 on Saturday night in the middle game of a three-game series at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
Joseph Carpenter's two-run home run to left field in the second inning off Ducks starter Ian Clarkin gave the Ironmasters an early 2-0 lead. It stayed that way until the fifth when the Ducks tied the game on Boog Powell's RBI single off Ironmasters starter Jared Lakind and a bases loaded walk by Sam Travis. Brian Goodwin then put the Ducks in front in the sixth with a leadoff solo homer to right.
Lebanon re-took the lead at 4-3 in the bottom of the sixth on a wild pitch that scored Andretty Cordero and a sac fly to center off the bat of Chris Proctor. Alex Dickerson's RBI single to left in the seventh tied the game at four. However, a one-out solo homer to right by Kelly Dugan in the eighth put the Ironmasters back on top for good at 5-4.
Neither starter factored into the decision. Clarkin pitched five and one-third innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits and walk while striking out seven. Lakind lasted five innings, giving up two runs on two hits and six walks with three strikeouts. Mike Adams (1-1) got the win after tossing one and one-third scoreless innings. Jose Jose (3-1) took the loss, conceding the winning run in the eighth. Andrew Lee picked up his fourth save with a 1-2-3 ninth.
Joe DeCarlo led the Ducks offense with two hits, a run and a walk.
The Ducks and Ironmasters wrap up their three-game set on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Clipper Magazine Stadium. Fans can follow all the action live on Flo Baseball. Right-hander Chris Pike (season debut) toes the rubber for the Ducks against Ironmasters righty Dominic DiSabatino (1-1, 6.11).
