Aberdeen IronBirds News Release
Vader, Barber Lead 'Birds To Victory
RHP Sebastian Vader turned in another terrific outing last night, helping the IronBirds earn a 3-0 win over the Auburn Doubledays. George Barber also hit his first career home run to lead off the third inning. The IronBirds' centerfielder launched a shot high over the left field wall and that was the only run in the game until the IronBirds scored twice in the eighth. Federico Castagnini and Trey Mancini both scored in that eighth inning, and Alex Santana earned a six-out save. Aberdeen goes for the three game sweep tonight.
Give me some space!
With the win last night, the IronBirds assured themselves of maintaining first place heading into play today. However, the Batavia Muckdogs walloped the Hudson Valley Renegades last night, 15-6, putting the Renegades' record at 25-25. The Brooklyn Cyclones scored a victory over the Connecticut Tigers, so the Cyclones and Renegades are both at .500, tied for second place. Aberdeen holds a 1.5 game advantage over both squads in the McNamara Division.
Here comes the Broom?
The IronBirds have a chance to earn their third sweep of the season tonight. The other two sweeps came at home against the Brooklyn Cyclones (June 26-27) and at Dutchess Stadium against the Hudson Valley Renegades (July 1-3).
The Tour of the Pinckney Division Continues
After tonight's game against the Doubledays, the IronBirds will head about 90 minutes west to Batavia to take on the Muckdogs in the final three games before the New York-Penn League All Star Break. The Muckdogs and IronBirds share the same record entering play today at 25-22. Batavia is in third place in the Pinckney Division, 4.5 games behind the Jamestown Jammers.
On the mound tonight...
The IronBirds will send RHP Janser Severino to the hill this evening. Severino has an 0-4 record with a 4.12 ERA. In his last outing, he went 5.2 innings, allowing eight hits, three runs, and one walk. He struck out three. The IronBirds won the game 8-4, but Severino did not factor into the decision. He will be opposed by RHP Nick Pivetta. He will be making his Auburn debut tonight after getting the call up from the Gulf Coast League on Tuesday. With the GCL Nationals, Pivetta was 1-0 in four appearances (three starts), and held a 2.13 ERA.
