Spinners Schedule Shortened Again with Rainout

Lowell Spinners News Release

NILES, OH - The Lowell Spinners and Mahoning Valley Scrappers were rained out Thursday night at Eastwood Field in what would have been the series finale. The game will not be made up.

The rain out represents the third time in 2013 the Spinners have had a game rained out that will not be made up, as the final game of a series with an opponent the team will not face again was washed out.

With three less games on their schedule, the rained out games could play a critical role in the playoff push for the Spinners, who are currently in a first place tie with the Tri-City ValleyCats, who will have three more games than Lowell.

The Spinners had taken the first two games of the series and were set to throw rehabbing left-handed pitcher Francisco Taveras in the finale. Taveras will now be pushed back as the Spinners head to Staten Island for a three-game set with the Staten Island Yankees headed into the All-Star Break.

Danny Bethea, a catcher from St. John's University, will have a chance at history in his next game, as he has six straight games with an RBI to earn a share of the record shared by three Spinners alumni, most recently accomplished by Sal Paniagua in 2004.

First pitch in Staten Island is scheduled for 7pm.
