IronBirds Pull Away from Tourists Early in 12-1 Final
August 18, 2022 - South Atlantic League (SAL)
Asheville Tourists News Release
ABERDEEN- The Asheville Tourists dropped their third straight contest to the Aberdeen IronBirds on Thursday night. Asheville fell behind big early in the game and the offense never materialized a chance to come back. Aberdeen scored nine runs over the first three innings and held on to win 12-1.
Ernesto Jaquez started for the Tourists and surrendered six walks in his 2.2 innings of work. All six walks came around to score. The IronBirds used a two-run triple in the first, a three-run Home Run in the second, and a pair of RBI groundouts in the third to build their 9-0 advantage.
Miguel Palma led off the top of the fifth inning with a Home Run over the left field wall for his seventh longball in just his 17th game with the Tourists. Palma's Home Run snapped a 12-inning scoreless drought from the Asheville offense.
The Tourists did not record another hit after Palma's Home Run and Aberdeen countered with a trio of two-out RBI hits over the final few innings. Ryan Gusto and Cole McDonald combined to pitch the final five-plus innings out of Asheville's bullpen and the duo did a nice job keeping the IronBirds' offense in check.
Asheville will attempt to snap their three-game slide on Friday night with the first pitch slated for 7:05pm ET in Aberdeen.
