Aberdeen IronBirds News Release
Wappingers Falls, NY- The Aberdeen IronBirds used two home runs, both in the fourth inning, to get past the Hudson Valley Renegades 6-2. Trey Mancini and Jeff Kemp sent home runs over the left field fence in an explosive inning against Renegades' starter Jordan Harrison.
Hudson Valley got on the board first. Omar Narvaez tripled to lead off the second inning. He came in to score on a Granden Goetzman sacrifice fly and it was 1-0 Renegades after two innings.
In the fourth inning, the IronBirds would take the lead for good. Trey Mancini hit his first professional home run, a towering shot over the left field wall, tying the game at one. Four batters later, Jeff Kemp hit a two run home run in almost the exact same spot as Mancini, and he gave the IronBirds a 3-1 lead, a lead they would not relinquish.
The Renegades got on the board again in the fifth. Darryl George scored on a James Harris groundout and the Aberdeen lead was 3-2.
Mike Yastrzemski made sure the IronBirds would stay in the win column, however. In the eighth inning, he hit a leadoff infield single and then scored on a Manny Hernandez groundout. In the ninth, Yastrzemski would hit a one out RBI single that scored Jared Breen. Kris Richards hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Scott Kalush, giving the IronBirds the 6-2 win.
Sebastian Vader got the win. He improves to 2-1. He went six and a third innings, allowed four hits, two runs (both earned), walking one and striking out six. Donnie Hart came on in relief and pitched one and two-thirds innings, allowing just one hit, fanning four. Jimmy Yacabonis worked the ninth inning without allowing a run, giving up one hit and fanning one.
Jordan Harrison took the loss for Hudson Valley. He falls to 3-1.
The IronBirds will go for the sweep tomorrow. They will send Janser Severino (0-1, 2.38) to the hill. The Renegades will counter with Chris Kirsch (1-0, 1.80). First pitch from Dutchess Stadium is set for 7:05 p.m.
