Lowell Spinners News Release

LOWELL, MASS. - After the Connecticut Tigers tied the game in the top half of the seventh inning and extra-innings on the line, the Spinners loaded the bases in the bottom half of the seventh inning and Carlos Asuaje came off the bench with a pinch-hit single to give the team a walk-off 3-2 win. The win gave the Spinners a sweep of the doubleheader Tuesday night at LeLacheur Park.

Connecticut (4-11) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning, taking advantage of a Spinners error. After two quick outs, Ben Verlander reached when Nick Moore's throw just pulled Kevin Mager off the bag at first. Raphael Rhymes followed with a triple to right, scoring Verlander to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.

Lowell (8-6) evened the score in the bottom of the third inning, taking advantage of a Tigers miscue. Cleuluis Rondon led off the inning with a single and Tzu-Wei Lin beat out a bunt single of his own, as Rondon advanced to third when the throw got away from Verlander at first. A Manuel Margot sacrifice fly would bring in Rondon, knotting the score at one.

The Spinners took the lead in the fourth inning against Nick Carmichael. Nick Moore singled with one out and Wiliams Jerez brought him in on an RBI double down the left field line, giving the Spinners a 2-1 lead.

The Tigers would not go quietly into the night however, as Dominic Ficociello doubled to right-centerfield to lead off the inning. A sacrifice bunt moved him to third and Austin Green brought him home with a single to left, tying the score at two.

Attempting to avoid extra innings, Rondon beat out an infield single off Carmichael's glove. Lin followed with a single up the middle, putting runners at the corners. The Tigers went to the bullpen for Tanner Bailey who intentionally walked Margot to load the bases. Bruce Crabbe went to the Spinners bench for Asuaje and it paid off, as the 2013 11th round draft pick drove the ball over the centerfielder's head for a walk-off 3-2 win.

Lin paced the Spinners offense with a three-hit night, while Rondon had a two-hit night, as the Spinners offense had another double-digit hit performance with 10.

The Spinners go for the three-game sweep Wednesday night as they kickoff the July 4th holiday early with Post-Game Fireworks and Harry Potter Night. Jamie Callahan gets the ball for a 7:05 first pitch.
