Hudson Valley Renegades News Release

WAPPINGERS FALLS, NY (July 2, 2013) - The starting pitching matchup lived up to the hype as Jordan Harrison and Sebastian Vader battled each other for six innings on Tuesday night. But a three-run inning for the IronBirds in the fourth was the difference, as Aberdeen rolled to a 6-2 victory to take the first two games of the series. For the second night in a row, the Renegades bats were neutralized as the team opened up the month of July with a pair of losses.

'Birds first baseman Trey Mancini had a great night at the plate and got it started with a two out double off Harrison in the top of the first. However, Harrison struck out Hector Veloz swinging on a night when he was attempting to win his fourth start in a row. The 'Gades quickly provided a run in the home second after Omar Narvaez tripled to right-center with one out. Granden Goetzman then lifted a fly ball to center that was deep enough for Narvaez to score the game's first run.

In the fourth, Mancini tied things up with one swing after depositing Harrison's 3-2 offering over the left field wall to open the frame. Later, with Anthony Vega at first with two outs after reaching on a fielder's choice, Jeff Kemp hit another home run to left that gave the IronBirds a 3-1 lead. It would be all the run support they'd need.

Hudson Valley struck again in the fifth after John Alexander singled Darryl George to third. James Harris' RBI groundout forced out Alexander but scored George to make it 3-2. More importantly, the inning continued for Ariel Soriano with the tying run at first. His groundball to short took a nasty hop and came up into the face of Jared Breen, allowing both runners to be safe. But Vader locked in and got Patrick Blair to pop out to first before striking out Ty Young looking to end the threat.

With Jaime Schultz pitching for the Renegades in the eighth, Aberdeen broke through with another run after singles by Mike Yastrzemski and Mancini. A four pitch walk to Veloz loaded the bases with one out before Manny Hernandez grounded out to second to score a run and extend the lead to 4-2. Two more runs came in to score in the 'Birds ninth after an RBI single by Yastrzemski and a sac fly to center by third baseman Kristopher Richards.

NOTES: The Renegades had just two base hits after the fifth inning: a Soriano infield single in the eighth and a Johnny Field leadoff double in the ninth...Hudson Valley is 1-for-25 with runners in scoring position in this series...George has now reached base safely in seven straight games.

The series wraps up at The Dutch Wednesday night at 7:05 PM. Come out and celebrate The Fourth of July early with fireworks after the game. The Renegades will look to avoid the sweep when they send lefthander Chris Kirsch (1-0, 1.80 ERA) to the mound to face Janser Severino (0-1, 2.38 ERA).
