Staten Island Yankees News Release
Staten Island, NY - July 2nd - Yeicok Calderon hit his fourth home run of the season as the Baby Bombers defeated the Brooklyn Cyclones 5-2 at home on Tuesday night.
In the bottom of the first, third baseman Kale Sumner hit a one-out single to left before centerfielder Brandon Thomas drew a walk. Up next, Calderon blasted a shot over the right field wall to give Staten Island a 3-0 advantage.
The Yankees tagged on another run in the third. Derek Toadvine led things off, reaching first base on a fielding error by third baseman Anthony Chavez. Toadvine then stole second, and later came around to score when Brandon Thomas hit a line drive single to right.
Three innings later, Isaias Tejeda doubled to left before scoring on an RBI single by Jose Rosario, extending the Yankees' lead to five runs.
The Cyclones remained scoreless until the seventh when an RBI single and a couple of Staten Island errors led to a couple of Brooklyn runs. James Roche began the inning with a walk, before moving to second on a balk by relief pitcher Cale Coshow. Roche later stole third. Chavez then singled to plate Roche. Chavez also scored on the play after a missed catch two-base error by left fielder Mikeson Oliberto and a throwing error by shortstop Jose Rosario.
