Aberdeen IronBirds News Release

Aberdeen, MD - The Aberdeen IronBirds fell to the Hudson Valley Renegades Saturday evening by a score of 3-1. Aberdeen had only three hits, while Hudson Valley had seven to go along with their three runs.

Jake Cowan got the start for the IronBirds and things did not go smoothly for the right-hander in the first three innings. After walking the first two batters of the game on eight pitches, a Kris Carter fly out and a Mychal Givens throwing error allowed the Renegades' Chris Winder to score from second to give the Renegades a 1-0 lead.

The Renegades would strike again in the second. Cowan retired the first two Renegades, but with two outs, Craige Lyerly singled and stole second. Winder would knock Lyerly in two batters later pushing the Hudson Valley lead to 2-0.

Aberdeen got their lone run in the bottom of the second. After Renegades starter Jason McEachern hit Connor Narron and Mychal Givens back-to-back, Jeremy Nowak flied out to left-center. Narron attempted to tag up on the play, but Lyerly, the Renegade Centerfielder, threw Narron out at third. Kyle Hoppy roped a two-out single into right field that scored Givens.

Hudson Valley scored their third and final run in the top of the third. Carter singled and later scored on a two-out RBI double by Jeff Malm. The Renegades had five hits with two outs for the ballgame.

Cowan took the loss for Aberdeen. He pitched five innings, gave up five hits, three runs (two earned), had four walks and three strikeouts. Cowan falls to 0-1 and the IronBirds fall to 1-1 on the young season. Meanwhile, for Hudson Valley, Jason McEachern pitched five-plus innings, gave up just the one run, walked two, and struck out three. Andrew Leary pitched four shut-out innings in relief and earned the save.

The IronBirds take on the Renegades in the rubber-match of the three-game series tomorrow beginning at 5:35 p.m. Jacob Partridge is expected to take the mound for the Renegades, while David Baker will get the start for the IronBirds.

The Aberdeen IronBirds sold out season tickets for the 10th straight season. Group packages and single-game tickets, however, are still available for the 2011 season. For ticket information, contact our box office at (410) 297-9292 or visit us online at www.IronBirdsbaseball.com.
