June 18, 2011 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
ABERDEEN, M - The Renegades tDook advantage of an outstanding night on the mound by starter Jason McEachern and some timely hitting to win game two of the series against the Aberdeen IronBirds 3-1, Saturday night at Ripken Stadium. The Renegades pitching staff stole the show giving up just three hits on the night. The three hits are the least allowed by the Renegades dating back to July 23, 2010 vs. Brooklyn (Renegades won 5-2).
A night after recording nine hits the IronBirds bats went flat recording just one hit through the first seven innings. Renegades pitchers faced the minimum, 15 batters, from the third inning through the seventh going three-up-three-down for all five innings.
McEachern (1-0, 1.80), the Rays 13th-round selection in the 2008 June First Year Player Draft, was lights out, striking out three and surrendering just one run, on one hit in five innings. Reliever Drew Leary took over for McEachern in the bottom of the sixth. Leary picked up the first save of the season hurling four innings of two-hit, shutout baseball.
The Renegades offense took advantage of a shaky start by IronBirds starter Jake Cowan (0-1, 3.60) posting a run in the top of the first. Cowan opened the game with10 straight balls, walking the first two batters he faced. With a 2-0 count Kes Carter flew out to center field allowing Chris Winder to score from second thanks to a throwing error by Aberdeen's second baseman Dudley leonora. The Renegades recorded two more runs posting a run in both the second and third innings.
One of the Rays first round picks, Carter, led the Renegades offense going 2-for-5 on the night with one run scored.
The Renegades and IronBirds meet for the rubber match tomorrow night at 5:35 p.m. at Ripken Stadium. The Renegades will give the ball to southpaw Jacob Partridge and Aberdeen will counter with David Baker. To listen to all the excitement live visit hvrenegades.com.
