Tigers Promote Importance of Reading at Wequonnoc Elementary

NORWICH, CT - Before heading to Lowell to start the New York-Penn League season, members of the Connecticut Tigers visited Wequonnoc Elementary in Taftville for a significant school assembly.

Along with General Manager Andrew Weber and Director of Community Relations and Promotions Dave Schermerhorn, Tigers players Colin Kaline and Clemente Mendoza promoted the importance of reading.

The players read numerous books to the children; Colin in English and Clemente in Spanish. Following the reading portion of the assembly, the players led the students in singing many songs, including "Take Me Out to the BallGame" and signed autographs.

Connecticut, the class A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers will play it's home opener at Dodd Stadium on Monday, June 20 against the defending New York-Penn League champion Tri-City ValleyCats.
