Jamestown Jammers News Release

NILES, Ohio - For the second night in a row, the Jamestown Jammers raced out to an early lead on Mahoning Valley pitching; however, the Scrappers had an answer this time as they rallied to edge Jamestown, 4-3, at Eastwood Field Saturday night.

While Saturday's contest started in a similar fashion to Friday's game, the Jammers couldn't maintain their first inning lead.

After starting pitcher Eddie Guerrero retired the first two batters he faced, Jamestown strung together four consecutive hits to take a three-run advantage. Terrence Dayleg and Rand Smith both reached on singles to start the offense. Jobduan Morales followed with a single to right field to plate Dayleg before Eddie Rodriguez drilled a triple to center field to drive in two more runs. Nestor Castillo would ground out to end the threat and leave Rodriguez at third.

The Scrappers countered the Jammers immediately with a three-run first inning of their own. Jose Urena allowed back-to-back singles to start the frame before picking up two straight outs to almost escape the threat. However, the Jamestown starting pitcher would hit Alex Lavisky to load the bases before walking consecutive batters to force in two runs. Cody Elliott added a RBI single to tie the game at three.

The score would remain deadlocked until the bottom of the fourth inning. Aaron Siliga doubled to lead off the inning and advanced to third on a single by Elliott. Casey Serna then grounded into a fielder's choice to score Mahoning Valley's fourth run.

The Jammers failed to capitalize on an opportunity sixth, but their best chance to tie the game came in the eighth inning. With one out, Dayleg walked and Smith singled to center to put runners at first and second. Morales was called out on strikes for the second out, but Rodriguez walked to load the bases. Nestor Castillo struck out looking to end the inning and the Jamestown hopes of a came back.

Smith paced the Jamestown offense with three hits and a run scored, and Rodriguez had the lone extra-base hit for the Jammers with his two-run triple. Guerrero earned the win on the mound for the Scrappers. He gave up five hits and three earned runs in five innings of work. Kyle Petter earned the save after throwing a perfect ninth.
