Williamsport Crosscutters News Release

Williamsport Crosscutters starter Mike Nesseth limited the State College Spikes to just one run on two hits over six strong innings, and second baseman Matt Payton hit a two-out, two-run double in the eighth inning to propel the Cutters to their second victory of the season.

Williamsport fell behind 1-0 on a fourth inning home run by Spikes left fielder Wes Freeman, but knotted the game in the bottom of the fifth after a single by Payton and throwing error by State College first baseman Michaelangel Trinidad allowed Francisco Diaz to cross the plate.

Payton put the Cutters ahead for good in the bottom of the seventh, as his double to right field scored Brock Stassi and Diaz, giving Williamsport a 3-1 lead.

Crosscutters reliever Juary Gomez pitched three perfect innings to end the game, picking up his first save of the season.

With the victory the Cutters stay atop the standings in the Pinckney Division of the NewYork-Penn League. They head out of town for their next four games before returning to Bowman for a game against Batavia on June 23. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm. Every Cutters game can be heard on ESPN Radio 104.1 FM, ESPN 1050 AM, or online at crosscutters.com.
