Des Moines, IA - The Iowa Wild (5-3-0-0, 10 points) were defeated by the Texas Stars (6-4-2-0, 14 points) 5-0 in front of 7,514 fans at Wells Fargo Arena on Saturday night. Stars goalie Allen York (1-0-0) stopped all 26 Iowa shots in his Texas debut, leading the Stars past the Wild. Five different goal scorers lit the lamp for the Stars, who ended a four-game winless skid (0-3-1-0). Iowa goalie Darcy Kuemper (3-3-0) made a season-high 44 saves in the defeat. The Wild concludes a five-game home stand with Milwaukee at 4:05 p.m. on Sunday at Wells Fargo Arena.
The Texas Stars claimed a 1-0 lead at 4:35 of the first period, as forward Matej Stransky scored his second goal of the season. Stransky picked up a pass from forward Brett Ritchie and banked a shot off the skate of Iowa defenseman Jon Landry. The puck bounced past goalie Darcy Kuemper for the game's first goal.
In the second period, Texas took advantage of a five-on-three striking for a 2-0 lead at 9:23. Winger Chris Mueller banked a shot off Iowa defender Kyle Medvec and into the Wild net. Defender Maxime Fortunus and forward Colton Sceviour each added an assist on Mueller's sixth goal of the season. The Stars made it 3-0 at 14:06, as Mike Hedden beat Kuemper for his third goal of the season. Brendan Ranford set up the tally off a two-on-one rush. Texas defenseman Jamie Oleksiak expanded the Texas lead to 4-0 at 16:52. Brett Ritchie and Justin Dowling both picked up an assist on Oleksiak's first tally of the year.
At 7:44 of the third period, forward Colton Sceviour scored Texas' fifth goal of the game. Forward Curtis McKenzie and defenseman Aaron Rome each picked up an assist on the final goal of the evening.
Prior to the game, Iowa Wild General Manager Jim Mill announced that defenseman Corbin Baldwin has been loaned to the Quad City Mallards, Iowa's Central Hockey League affiliate. The rookie defender has played in three games for Iowa, going scoreless with 14 penalty minutes.
