
Crunch Stumble against Senators

Binghamton, NY - The Syracuse Crunch's five-game win streak was halted by a 4-2 loss to the Binghamton Senators tonight at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.
The Crunch penalty kill unit held the league's leading power play scoreless but the Crunch were only able to convert one of their five man-advantages. The Crunch fall to 6-3-1-0 on the season and trail 1-2-1-0 in the season series against Binghamton.
Crunch netminder Cedrick Desjardins allowed four goals on 37 shots while his Binghamton counterpart Nathan Lawson made 37 saves on 39 shots.
Both teams traded goals in the first frame to go into the intermission knotted at one. Binghamton struck first with an even-strength goal from Mike Hoffman at the 7:31 mark. Hoffman beat Desjardins with a blast from the left point, assisted by Cody Ceci and Jean-Gabriel Pageau.
Evan Rankin scored a power-play goal for the Crunch to even the score just over two minutes later. Rankin beat Lawson with a shot from the slot for his third goal of the season. Cedric Paquette and Artem Sergeev were credited with the helpers.
Senator's left wing Shane Prince broke the stalemate with 5:37 to play in the middle frame. Prince found his own rebound to beat Desjardins and give Binghamton a 2-1 lead. The Senators extended their lead when Matt Puempel converted Pageau's pass from behind the net with 9.3 seconds to play in the period.
Binghamton's Cole Schneider potted a rebound 5:48 into the final frame to put the Senators ahead 4-1. Pageau and Hoffman were credited with the assists; it was Pageau's fourth of the night.
Nikita Kucherov cut the Crunch deficit to two with a goal 12:22 into the third period. Vladislav Namestnikov was credited with the secondary assist, extending his point streak to nine games. The goal extended Kucherov's point streak to seven games and goals streak to three games.
