Jim Adduci drove in the winning run in the 14th inning to lead the Iowa Cubs to a 3-2 win over the Albuquerque Isotopes in front of 11,269 fans at Principal Park Saturday night. The score was tied 2-2 since the sixth inning.

Welington Castillo and Marquez Smith hit back-to-back one-out singles in the bottom of the 14th inning. Pinch-hitter Adduci then drove home the winning run.

In the first inning, Albuquerque's Ivan De Jesus Jr. tripled to centerfield as Sam Fuld made a diving catch, but the ball got passed him. Next batter, Jay Gibbons drove home De Jesus Jr. for the 1-0 Isotopes lead. Iowa's starter Thomas Diamond retired the next 12 batters, including striking out the side in the second inning. Diamond did not receive a decision, pitching six innings and striking out six.

The Cubs knotted the game at one in the fourth inning when Brad Snyder led off with a walk and Castillo followed him with a run-scoring double. The Isotopes reclaimed the lead in the sixth inning. Pitcher Alberto Bastardo singled to lead things off. Jay Gibbons then drove in the go-ahead run with a double.

However, Iowa quickly answered back. In their half of the sixth, the Cubs' Smith doubled to drive in Jason Dubois, who reached on a walk, to tie the game 2-2. Smith was 3-for-6 while Sam Fuld and Castillo collected two hits each in the win.

Jeff Samardzija pitched four scoreless innings of relief and Justin Berg got the win for Iowa. He threw two scoreless innings. Hyang-Nam Choi was tagged with the loss for Albuquerque, as he gave up the go-ahead run.

The Cubs and Isotopes meet for game three of this series Sunday at 12:05 p.m.
