Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release
The Sky Sox lost their second in a row at Security Service Field tonight, 7-2 - the fourth time they have dropped consecutive games at home this year.
The 51s controlled the game nearly the whole way through, punishing the Sky Sox with a steady barrage of offense.
Las Vegas didn't waste any time getting started. Though Sox starter Josh Muecke struck out Jarrett Hoffpauir in the game's first at-bat, a Jonathan Diaz walk followed by a Brett Wallace home run put the 51s up 2-0 by the night's the fourth at-bat.
Extending the lead to 3-0 in the top of the second, the Sky Sox clawed back with two of their own; 3-2.
Las Vegas added one more in the fifth before blowing the game open in the eighth. With the score 4-2, the Sky Sox called upon rehabbing Rockies' closer in the top of the seventh to keep the deficit at two. Though he held the 51s scoreless for his one out in the seventh, he was unable to deliver in the eighth. Enduring another rough outing, the reliever relinquished three earned runs before being ejected at the conclusion of the inning; 7-2.
The game would end quietly from then on as each team was held scoreless through the remainder of the match.
With the loss, the Sky Sox fell to 32-37, good for third place in the Pacific North. The 51s improve to 31-39 with the victory.
The two teams will face off again tomorrow afternoon before concluding their series on Monday. Esmil Rogers (0-2, 9.45) will take on Lance Broadway (2-5, 6.11) with the first pitch scheduled for 1:05 PM.
