Memphis Redbirds News Release
MEMPHIS, TN - New Orleans topped Memphis 5-3 Sunday afternoon at AutoZone Park.
The Zephyrs jumped out to an early 3-0 lead before Memphis scratched out a pair of runs to close the gap to one run on Jim Rapoport's RBI-single in the fourth inning. However, former Redbird Hector Luna extended the Z's lead in the fifth with a two-out, solo homer and Danny Richar's RBI-double in the sixth gave New Orleans a two-run lead. Luna led the Z's with three hits and three RBI on the afternoon. Kevin Howard and Bryan Anderson each had two hits for the âBirds in the loss.
New Orleans starter Tom Mastny earned the win with five solid innings of work. The right-hander allowed two runs on seven hits for his first win of the year. Memphis starter P.J. Walters took the loss giving up four runs on seven hits and three walks across five innings. Veras notched his second save for the Zephyrs working around the two walks in the ninth.
