August 31, 2015 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Iowa Cubs News Release
DES MOINES, Iowa (Aug. 31, 2015) - Iowa right-hander Carlos Pimentel has been named to the 2015 All Pacific Coast League Team, the league announced Monday. He is the first right-handed starting pitcher to ever make the All-PCL Team as an I-Cub.
The team was elected by the league's field managers and media representatives.
Pimentel, 25, is 12-5 with a 2.92 ERA (43ER/132.1IP) and 109 strikeouts in 25 games, including 24 starts, for Iowa this season.
The righty leads the league in wins, ERA and is fifth in strikeouts as he tries to become just the third pitcher in the PCL's modern era to win the pitcher's triple crown. He is also first in the league in opponents batting average (.221) and winning percentage (.706).
Pimentel was named to the 2015 Triple-A All-Star Game and was named the starting pitcher for the PCL. He tossed 2.0 innings and allowed one run on two hits. He also struck out four, an I-Cubs All-Star Game record.
Since May 1, Pimentel's 2.31 ERA (30ER/116.2IP) is the best mark in the league. He has allowed two or fewer earned runs in 19 of 24 starts this season, and has only allowed a total of 20 earned runs in his last 13 starts over 76.0 innings (2.37 ERA). His 12 wins are the most for an I-Cubs pitcher since J.R. Mathes won 12 in 2009.
Pimentel was named Chicago Cubs Minor League Pitcher of the Month for the month of June. He was also named PCL Player of the Month in June. Overall, the righty recorded a league-best 0.95 ERA (3ER/28.1IP) in five June starts. He went 4-1 in that span with 22 strikeouts and 1.16 WHIP. Opponents hit .192 against him, the fourth best mark in the PCL.
Pimentel is the lone Iowa Cubs on the All-PCL team this season. The I-Cubs had three players named to the All-PCL team last season: Infielder/outfielder Arismendy Alcantara, left-handed pitcher Tsuyoshi Wada and right-hander Blake Parker.
