Iowa Chops News Release
GRAND RAPIDS, MI - The Iowa Stars met the Grand Rapids Griffins for the fourth and final time during the Regular Season on Wednesday night in Michigan. After winning a franchise record eight straight road games, Iowa has now dropped three straight with a 4-1 loss to the Griffins.
The Detroit Red Wings AHL affiliate jumped-out to a 1-0 lead midway through the opening period. Former Iowa Stars Right Wing Jamie Tardif netted his eighth goal of the season, a power-play goal, at the 9:54 mark. Just under four minutes later, the Griffins staked themselves to a 2-0 lead with a shorthanded goal when Ben Simon registered his 12th marker of the season at the 13:34 mark.
Iowa pulled to within one early in the second period. Defenseman Mark Fistric kept the play in the offensive, brought the puck down low behind the goal line and sent it back out front. Center Shane Endicott was able to knock the puck behind Grand Rapids netminder Jimmy Howard only 4:53 into the second stanza. It was Endicott's fourth goal of the season. Ryan Oulahen regained the two-goal lead with the Griffins second shorthanded goal of the contest six minutes later. Iowa out-shot the Griffins 12 to seven in the period, but found themselves down 3-1 at the second intermission.
Veteran Center Kip Miller gave Grand Rapids a 4-1 lead with his team-leading 21st goal of the season 10:09 into the third period.
Iowa Goaltender Dan Ellis faced 22 shots in the loss. Iowa was 0-6 on the power-play, while Grand Rapids was 1-4.
