
Hartford recalls Holt

Hartford, March 14, 2007: Hartford Wolf Pack general manager/head coach Jim Schoenfeld announced today that the team has recalled goaltender Chris Holt to the Wolf Pack from the Charlotte Checkers of the ECHL. In addition, the Wolf Pack has loaned goaltender Alex Westlund to the Charlotte Checkers of the ECHL.
In 42 games with Charlotte this season, Holt has gone 21-18-2 with a 3.26 goals-against average and 89.5% save percentage. Last season, the 21-year-old goaltender played in 23 games with the Checkers, where he went 7-11-1 with a 4.10 goals-against average, and a 88.7% save percentage. In addition, he went 3-2-1 in nine games with the Wolf Pack last season, with 225 saves, a 87.9% save percentage. Holt made his NHL debut with the New York Rangers on December 13th, playing 10 scoreless minutes with two saves.
In four games with the Wolf Pack this season, Westlund, a former Yale University Eli and veteran of seven professional seasons, has a 1.87 goals-against average and a 93.8% save percentage. Westlund also played in 18 games with Charlotte this season, with a 2.86 goals-against average, a 91.2% save percentage and two shutouts. Westlund played last season in Russia's Vysshaya Liga with Mechel Chelyabinsk, compiling a 2.09 goals-against average in 41 games. The 31-year-old Flemington, NJ native spent the 2004-05 campaign with the Charlotte Checkers. In 51 ECHL games that season, Westlund went 27-15-5 with a 2.72 goals-against average, a 91.2% save percentage and one shutout. The 5-9, 180-pound backstop finished tied for fifth in the league in wins and ranked fifth in minutes-played (2,932) and saves (1,372). Following that season, he helped represent the United States at the IIHF World Championships, appearing in one game. Westlund spent four years at Yale University from 1995-99. His best season was 1997-98, when he captured the Ken Dryden Award for Best Goaltender in the ECAC with a record of 20-9-3, a 2.32 goals-against average, a 91.8% save percentage and three shutouts in 32 games.
The Wolf Pack start a three-game road weekend this Friday, March 16th, with a visit to Providence to take on the Bruins (7:05 PM faceoff), followed by a visit to Springfield on Saturday to take on the Falcons in the final DATTCO I-91 Challenge of the season (7:05 PM start), and wrapping up with a visit to Lowell on Sunday (4:05 PM faceoff). The Pack's next home game is next Friday, March 23rd, as they battle the Worcester Sharks (7:00).
