Iowa Drops Series Opener in Fresno, 2-1

Iowa Cubs News Release

FRESNO, CA - The Iowa Cubs (37-64) dropped a 2-1 game to the Fresno Grizzlies (59-43), Tuesday at Chukchansi Park.

Making his first start since July 6 after battling illness, Duane Underwood Jr. permitted one run on seven hits through 5.0 frames. The Grizzlies scored their run in third as base hits from Myles Straw and Jake Marisnick set up Tyler White for the RBI single.

The I-Cubs were held scoreless through five. In the sixth, they took advantage of two Fresno errors to plate a run without a hit in the inning.

Fresno wasted no time recapturing the edge, scoring a run off reliever Rob Zastryzny in the bottom of the sixth. Jack Mayfield started the drive with a one-out single and Yordan Alvarez took a walk to put two on. Nick Tanielu collected the RBI with a single to center.

That was all the scoring the Grizzlies would need as Iowa was held to four hits. Ryan Court claimed one in the eighth to extend his hitting streak to 18 games. David Bote, Trey Martin and Bijan Rademacher each tabbed a hit to make up the offensive effort.

Zastryzny fell to 3-2 on the season as he took the loss. Fresno starter Josh James (4-4) allowed one unearned run through 6.0 innings and captured the victory.

Iowa and Fresno clash again tomorrow with a 9:05 p.m. CT game at Chukchansi Park. Follow the action on AM 940 or www.iowacubs.com.
