Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

SACRAMENTO, CA - Jake Kalish enjoyed another strong outing, and the Storm Chasers won their road trip opener with a 6-2 triumph over Sacramento at Raleigh Field.

Sacramento took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st, as Peter Bourjos doubled, Myles Schroder bunted him to 3rd, and Chris Shaw singled.

Omaha responded with 3 in the top of the 2nd, however. Elier Hernandez singled and advanced to 2nd on a wild pitch, Humberto Arteaga hit a ground ball that was missed by 1st baseman Jerry Sands (allowing Hernandez to score from 2nd), Donnie DeWees singled, Jack Lopez bunted runners to 2nd and 3rd, and Luis Villegas reached when Sacramento botched a rundown between 3rd and home, leaving everyone safe and the bases loaded. Billy Burns then grounded into a forceout, bringing home Arteaga, and Nicky Lopez singled, scoring DeWees for a 3-1 Chasers lead.

Jake Kalish (W, 5-4) made that lead stand up over 6 excellent innings; he set a new career-high in strikeouts with 10 (after setting a previous high of 9 in his prior start). He allowed 1 run, 5 hits, and no walks.

Casey Kelly (L, 9-8) pitched 6.1 innings for the River Cats; he was charged with 3 runs (1 earned) on 8 hits, with 3 strikeouts and 2 walks.

Sacramento pulled a run back in the bottom of the 7th against Michael Mariot . Jerry Sands singled, went to 2nd on a wild pitch, moved to 3rd on a single by Miguel Gomez, and scored on a groundout by Orlando Calixte, cutting Omaha's lead to 3-2.

The Chasers restored their 2-run advantage in the top of the 8th. Ryan O'Hearn walked, Elier Hernandez sacrificed him to 2nd, and Humberto Arteaga drove O'Hearn in with a single, making it 4-2.

Richard Lovelady set the 'Cats down in the order in the bottom of the 8th, and Frank Schwindel gave Omaha breathing room with a 2-run homer in the top of the 9th. Schwindel's 17th of the season followed a single by Nicky Lopez, and extended the lead to 6-2.

Lovelady (S, 5) closed out the game in the bottom of the 9th, giving the Chasers a win in the first game of their weeklong California road schedule.

The Storm Chasers (45-56) will continue the series in Sacramento tomorrow night at 9:05 Central. RHP Trevor Oaks (6-4, 2.12) will oppose Sacramento's RHP Shaun Anderson (0-0, 3.60)
