Oklahoma City Comets News Release
Oklahoma City - Drew Hutchison pitched 5.2 shutout innings to lead the way as five Oklahoma City Dodgers pitchers combined to shut out the Albuquerque Isotopes in the Dodgers' 5-0 win Wednesday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
Wednesday marked the Dodgers' fifth shutout victory of the season and second in the month of July as Oklahoma City took a 2-0 lead in its three-game series against the Isotopes.
Hutchison (4-1) held the opponent scoreless in a third straight start (16.2 IP) and for the fifth time in his six starts with the Dodgers since June 27. He retired the first 10 batters he faced Wednesday and held the Isotopes to three hits overall, issuing one walk while racking up eight strikeouts.
Dodgers relievers Edward Paredes, Joe Broussard, Josh Sborz and Brian Schlitter held Albuquerque to three hits over the final 3.1 innings to secure the shutout.
The Dodgers (56-44) broke through a scoreless tie in the fifth inning when Edwin RÃ-os drilled a solo homer onto the Devon Energy Deck in right field to put the Dodgers in front, 1-0. The home run was RÃ-os' sixth with Oklahoma City this season.
The Dodgers added two unearned runs in the sixth inning via a throwing error and a sacrifice fly to take a 3-0 lead.
Tim Locastro reached on an Albuquerque fielding error to open the bottom of the sixth inning. Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig, who played the second game of a rehab assignment with OKC Wednesday, followed and drew a walk.
With two runners on, Andrew Toles came up to bat next and grounded out to first base. The Isotopes' first baseman then threw toward second base, but his throw went into left field, allowing Locastro to score for a 2-0 advantage and Puig to advance to third base. Donovan Solano followed and hit a sacrifice fly into right field to score Puig for a 3-0 lead.
The Dodgers tacked on two more runs in the eighth inning. Puig lined a two-out single into right field for his first hit of his rehab assignment. Puig then came around to score on a RBI double by pinch-hitter Kyle Garlick for a 4-0 Dodgers advantage. A RBI single by Solano followed to extend the Dodgers' lead to 5-0.
Puig finished the night 1-for-3 with a walk and scored two runs.
Solano and RÃ-os led the Dodgers with two hits each while Solano also collected a team-leading two RBI.
Albuquerque starting pitcher David Holman (4-4) was charged with the loss, allowing three runs (one earned) and five hits over 6.0 innings with two walks and two strikeouts as the Isotopes' record fell to 49-54.
The Dodgers and Isotopes wrap up their series at 7:05 p.m. on a $2 Thursday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark, featuring $2 Pepsi products, bottled water and select beer.
